Mechanical engineering (WTB) and yacht building belong together. At the various Feadship companies, WTB gets its own interpretation. This depends on the role of the company and the construction phase of the superyacht. Globally we distinguish engineering, yacht equipment / assembly and piping. Your expertise is welcome.

WTB and equipment

Mechanical engineering at Akerboom Yacht Equipment (Leiden) concerns, for example, pneumatically or hydraulically driven hatches and doors in the hull. Or a helicopter deck that can sink into the bow. Technical tours de force, which are cool to make. Preparation and construction take place in the workshops in Leiden. Assembly in the hull or at one of the finishing yards.

WTB and piping

As a technician in a finishing yard, you are a plumber, pipefitter or mechanic. Your work mostly involves piping. Think of an installation for the use of waste heat, for example, for the swimming pool and bathroom. But perfect piping is also needed for drinking water, fuel and oil supply and sanitation. As you participate in strong examples of craftsmanship, you witness how the yacht becomes more and more complete - right up to the moment it is launched.

Metalworking

Whereas mechanical engineering is ultimately "invisible," metalwork, on the contrary, stands out all over the ship. You often work in teams on the exterior: walls, decks and bulwarks. Using techniques such as machining, bending and polishing, you make the stainless steel railings to size; craftsmanship to put them through their paces. You'll also build stairs or a jacuzzi, and you'll finish assembling hatches, doors and boat seats, for example.

Whatever Feadship company you work for: you always have a stake in innovation and craftsmanship. Because whatever the customer wants, at Feadship we don't easily say 'no'. We accept the challenge, and make it. Engineers and mechanical engineers work closely together.
